The Ranthambore fort is located in Ranthambore National Park near Sawai Madhopur Nagar, which was used to prey on the Maharaja's hunting ground before Jaipur, and people used to hunt and come here till independence.
It is a formidable fort located in the center of Rajasthan. This Fort is known for the bravery and glory of Hammir Dev of Chauhan empire.
In 2013, along with Ranthambore Fort in the 37th session of World Heritage Committee, 5 more kilograms of Rajasthan were included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Ranthambore Fort was built by Chauhan ruler, but the name of the ruler is still unclear. But most of the people believe that the fort was built in 944 CE only during the time of famine.
According to another legend, the fort was constructed in 1110 CE in the kingdom of Jayant. According to the Aamer Development and Management Authority of Rajasthan Government, its construction work was started during the 10th century in the times of famine and continued for some centuries.

Under Chauhan -
Its ancient name was Ranthambaha and Ranastambhpur. In ancient times, in the 12th century it was associated with the Jain religion of Prithviraj I of Chauhan empire.
Siddesansura, who lived in the 12th century, described it as one of the holy and major pilgrimage places of Jainism. In the Mughal time, the temple of Mallinath was built in the fort.
Before the rule of Prithviraj Chauhan in the 12th century, Yadav used to rule this fort. According to the Indian Archaeological Survey, it is shown that the first damages were taken on the entry of the fort.
Sultan Iltumish of Delhi had captured Ranthambore in 1226, but after the death of Eltumish in 1236, Chauhan had recovered it.
Subsequently, Sultan Nasir Uddin later started the Mahmud army with Sultan Balban, but in 1248 and 1253 he had to make many fortresses. But in 1259 he had regained them from Jaitersingh Chauhan.
In 1283 Shakti Deo became the successor of Jaitrasinh and he recovered Ranthambore and his vast empire. After this Sultan Jalaluddin Firuz Khilji had all the kilos from 1290 to 91.
In 1299, Maharaja Hammir Dev Chauhan, stayed with Allahabad for the shelter of Rael General Muhammad Shah, and refused to give his kingdom to the Sultan.
Under Mewar -
Under Mewar the kilo was obtained by Rana Hammyr Singh and Rana Kumbh. After Rana Kumbh's reign, her successor, Rana Uday Singh, was made. Subsequently, Sultan Bahadur Shah of Gujarat captured the kilo from 1532 to 1535. After this, in 1569 the Mughal emperor Akbar took possession of the fort.
After this the fort went into the hands of Maharaja Kachva of Jaipur in the 17th century and it remained a part of Jaipur till Indian independence. The royal people used to prey on the place where this fort was built. Jaipur was made part of Rajasthan state of India in 1949.
There are three Hindu temples inside the Ranthambore fort, one of which is the temple of Ganesha, Shiva and Ramlalji which were constructed in 12th and 13th Century with the Red Karauli stone. There is a temple of Jain Lord Sumatinath (Panchayv Jain Tirthaara) and Lord Shivnath.
