Types of UPSC Interviews

Feed by Manisha Cat- UPSC

There can be various types of interviews depending upon the quantity and quality of the questions asked, the nature of the members and the conduct of the candidate during the interview. Let’s see the important types.

Pre-dominantly fact-based:

The questions being asked will primarily be fact-oriented. This will primarily test your knowledge and memory.

Pre dominantly concept and analysis based:

Here generally nothing direct and factual will be asked. Your comments would be sought on different issues. You would be asked to analyze and critically examine various policies and programmes. There would be no straight right and wrong answers.

Stress Interview:

One or more board members may seem uninterested or even hostile. They will constantly counter you. They might even rebuke you during the interview. They won’t give you the initial time to settle down and would straight away start bombarding questions.

Relaxed Interview:

A very comfortable interview which is full of ‘feel-good factor’. The questions will be easy, straight and simple. The board will not contradict you. The members might use the words like ‘son’, ‘beta’ etc. to make you comfortable.

Weird Interview:

The board number might not at all make an eye contact with you. A board member maybe throughout the interview busy mostly with the mobile phone or something like that. The members are constantly making movements. Their reactions are unpredictable.

Generally the Personality Test being conducted by the UPSC is mix of all these types, though the proportion of the different components can vary according the different Boards.
