Shah Rukh Khan’s King Gets Record ₹175 Crore Overseas Deal with Phars Films

Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King has reportedly secured a ₹175 crore overseas distribution deal with Phars Films, replacing Yash Raj Films as its international distribution partner ahead of its Christmas 2026 release.

Mumbai, October 30: Shah Rukh Khan’s much-anticipated action entertainer King has reportedly landed one of the biggest overseas distribution deals ever secured by an Indian film. With its worldwide theatrical release scheduled for December 24, 2026, the film has made headlines following reports that Dubai-based distributor Phars Films has acquired its international theatrical rights, replacing Yash Raj Films (YRF), which was previously announced as the overseas distribution partner.

According to a report by Pinkvilla, Phars Films has committed a reported ₹175 crore minimum guarantee (MG) for the film’s overseas distribution rights. If confirmed, the deal would set a new benchmark for Indian cinema, as no Indian film has previously been reported to secure an overseas minimum guarantee of ₹100 crore or more.

A minimum guarantee is a fixed amount agreed upon by the distributor for theatrical rights. Unlike a conventional commission-based distribution arrangement, it involves a significant upfront financial commitment and gives the producers greater revenue certainty before the film reaches cinemas.

Phars Films Replaces YRF as King’s Overseas Distributor

The reported change in distribution is noteworthy because Yash Raj Films has been a regular international distribution partner for several of Shah Rukh Khan’s major releases, including Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki.

However, Phars Films is already an established name in the overseas distribution market. The Dubai-based company acquired the international rights to Prabhas-starrer Saaho in 2019 and worked with YRF on its overseas rollout, directly handling distribution in the Middle East.

For King, Phars Films is reportedly taking the lead on international distribution. The company is said to be considering a territory-wise strategy, selling selected markets to regional distribution partners while retaining direct control over the Middle East.

North America and the United Kingdom could see significant changes under the new arrangement, although the final territory-wise distribution structure has not been officially confirmed.

King May Need $48–50 Million Overseas to Justify the Deal

The biggest question surrounding the reported ₹175 crore agreement is whether King can generate enough overseas box-office revenue to support such a substantial investment.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Jawan each earned approximately $49 million overseas in 2023, setting a strong benchmark for the actor’s international box-office appeal.

Based on the reported deal economics, King may need to generate around $48–50 million in overseas theatrical collections to support the distributor’s investment. This would put the film in the range of Shah Rukh Khan’s biggest international performers.

However, overseas box-office gross and distributor recovery are not the same thing. The amount ultimately recovered by Phars Films will depend on territory-wise distribution agreements, theatrical revenue shares, taxes, expenses and other commercial terms. Therefore, the reported $48–50 million benchmark should be viewed as an indicative target rather than a confirmed break-even figure.

Christmas 2026 Release Brings Big Opportunities and Competition

The Christmas release window could give King access to a strong holiday audience across major international markets. At the same time, the film will face competition from major Hollywood releases, including Avengers: Doomsday, Dune: Part Three and Jumanji, which are scheduled around the same period.

Competition for premium screens and showtimes could become a major factor, particularly in North America and Europe. The Middle East may prove especially important for King, given Phars Films’ established distribution network in the region.

The film’s overseas opening, screen availability and audience response during the holiday season will play an important role in determining whether it can deliver the collections required to support the reported distribution deal.

King Cast, Director and Production Details

Directed by Siddharth Anand, King is produced by Red Chillies Entertainment in association with Marflix Pictures.

The film features an ensemble cast led by Shah Rukh Khan, alongside Deepika Padukone, Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukerji and Arshad Warsi.

The reported ₹175 crore overseas agreement reflects significant trade confidence in Shah Rukh Khan’s international box-office appeal. However, with such a substantial amount reportedly committed before release, expectations will be high.

All eyes will now be on King’s overseas distribution strategy, opening weekend and Christmas holiday performance. If the film manages to approach the international collections of Pathaan and Jawan, the reported deal could become one of the most successful overseas distribution agreements in Indian cinema.
